Teaching on Til since 2022

I'm a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer. My main instruments are piano and keys and I love funk-jazz music from the 70s.
What you'll do

Finding inspiration

We will listen to a selection of some of my favorite classic 70s records to train our ears and inspire our minds, preparing to create groovy tunes together.

How to make grooves

Learn how to chop and develop original grooves and explore how to make grooves using sampling techniques and MIDI.

Recording techniques

We’ll cover fundamental recording techniques to help you capture and produce quality voice and instrument recordings. I’ll also talk about how to record, mix, and produce multi-instrumental tracks that include lead instruments, baselines, and other accompanying instruments.

Achieving a 70s vibe

Learn about the key musical characteristics found in popular 70s music, including common harmonies, composition, and chords. Together we’ll put these techniques into practice to create our own unique 70s-style music.

Mixing and mastering

We’ll talk about and practice core audio production fundamentals, including EQ, compression, editing, side chain and using plug-ins, with special attention paid to lo-fi sounds to help us achieve the 70s vibe we’re after.

Who you are
You are an intermediate musician who can play either the piano or bass guitar (or both!) and have a modest amount of experience producing music.
What to bring
Laptop with DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), MIDI keyboard or bass, and an open mind! I will be using Logic Pro and recommend you do the same if you don’t already use another DAW, but you are welcome to use whatever you are most comfortable with.
