Group guitar class taught by Joey Weidner

During this 5 week course, I will be your personal guide as we explore some of the most influential and righteous guitar playing of all time. In 1967, upon the release of his debut album 'Are You Experienced?', Jimi Hendrix changed music forever. His revolutionary approach to guitar playing and songwriting was unlike anything ever heard before. From his beautiful rhythm playing, to the earth-shattering riffs and the blistering solos, Jimi's incredible talents have inspired every generation of guitarist since. He still sounds fresh, exciting and original today, almost 60 years on. In this fun and interactive class, we will explore the mechanics of his playing, his approach to rhythm, lead, tone, phrasing, double stops, and how to combine it all together. You will start to understand how he played so fluidly, and find freedom on the fretboard. I have selected 5 songs from the album that I deem to be the most educational and inspiring. We will study them together from the ground up, and learn the methods of (arguably) the greatest guitarist of all time. The goal of this class is not to learn these songs note for note. In fact, it's unlikely that Jimi himself ever played them the same way twice. We will instead be exploring this music to capture the SPIRIT of Jimi’s playing, and use it to ignite the FIRE of our own. So the question is, Are You Experienced?

This was the hardest guitar course I’ve ever taken. Joey was excellent at explaining the basics before jumping into the guts of the songs. I’m motivated to keep practicing the songs to get better with them.

I really enjoyed this class. Joey is an engaging teacher with a great thread to his lessons, he keeps everything to the point and in context and teaches a very open and adaptable approach to the songs that keeps them fun and is workable at many skill levels.
